Minah says something dumb, Netizens lose their shit, water is wet.

Disclaimer: In the context of this post, "Netizen" applies specifically to the Hive-mind that thrives of these scandals, NOT the general Internet user.

In an interview with MBC, Girls' day's Minah talked a bit about their last hit "Female President":

Article:  Minah "Female President's #1 win was buried by a plane crash accident"

"On the day we won our first public broadcast #1 on a music program, there was a plane crash accident. The music program's broadcast was canceled so our #1 wasn't that known. That's why I worked harder than ever to win #1 next time again."
1. [+1,109, -184] What a disrespectful thing to say. What does that make the families of the deceased?
2. [+863, -82] What a scary kid...

3. [+820, -86] Such a spiteful person, how scary
4. [+115, -16] How could she say something like that? Blame the plane crash for her #1 not being known? I don't know with what intentions she said this but it's clearly disrespectful to the families of the deceased.

5. [+110, -12] I remember Ivy got a whole bunch of hate for tweeting about her Inkigayo stage being cut or something because of the plane crash... They're both thoughtless.

6. [+105, -14] People died in that accident... and she's upset that their #1 was buried by that? People died... it's natural that people will be more inclined to read more news about it than their win. I don't even expect aynthing more from selfish idols anymore, especially with how they're all stupid.
7. [+96, -9] This is the result of stupidity
8. [+90, -7] This is a historically bad comment ㅋㅋㅋ
9. [+85, -12] She really said that? How thoughtless
10. [+79, -10] Look at her face when she says it ㅋㅋㅋ Does she really think it's appropriate to say?
11. [+73, -10] Wow... Minah... was a scary kid like this? I wonder what the families of the deceased will think when they see this... they're living day by day in utter sorrow. I get that she's young but how can you be this disrespectful...
12. [+64, -9] She really thinks her winning #1 was comparable to news articles about a plane crash with lives on the line? Unbelievable...
13. [+64, -8] Utter idiot
14. [+53, -8] What a dangerous statement.
15. [+42, -8] Brainless. I get that it was unfortunate for them but can she really only say it like that?

To help matters even further, the bastion of integrity that is MBC decided to do this to the interview. Because who needs professionalism when you could have flame-bait, amirite.

Now Minah said something extremely stupid here, to the point where I'm not sure what she was thinking or whether she was while saying it, but not because it was insensitive. Sure she could have phrased it better (and the interviewer and all the editing people are equally at fault here for the fuckery off a job they did.) But instead because she said all this, while fully aware of how shallow the general Korean market is. Netizens' witch hunt mentality and utter hypocrisy is well know and documented elsewhere so I won't go too far into it, but everyone is already aware of stories like the T-ara bullying scandal and the Secret iibe situation. Minah's intent in what she said was clearly matter of fact. Cause and Effect. A plane crash prevented their first win (A huge milestone in an idol's carrier) from being broadcasted, essentially causing it to have not happened. This causes the girls to work even harder so they can get back what they've earned. Nothing about the plane crash, or it's victims, just that it happened. But as is the way of the Netizen, her comments are vilified by a few trolls and haters, and interpreted to be so by the rest so that it would fit the established narrative.

There have always been and always will be idiots on the Internet. The problem with the Korean market is that it actually listens to the drivel. Management companies pay people to post positive comments about their artists on forums because it matters, advertisers, producers, the people who make these companies money, listen to the hive-mind. Opportunities will be lost, contracts will be pulled if your brand has a negative image on Internet message boards. Re-read that last sentence and think how stupid it sounds. That the opinion of random nobodies in a virtual space actually matters in a slight way. Unfortunately, in Korea, it does, and all you need to do is to look at T-ara to see just how. Luckily for people who appreciate good music, KKS is not one of those gutless lackeys and gives no fucks as to what the Internet thinks of him or his brand. If he did, him, every member of T-ara and everyone who had ever been even slightly involved with T-ara would have committed suicide by now. Indeed an appropriate punishment, if the Netizen thinks you have done wrong.
